Material availability, workability, and low cost are often determining factors when purchasing pipe; abrasion resistance is often sacrificed. This may appear less expensive at the outset, but more frequent replacement and maintenance will quickly erode those initial savings.
Standard mild steel reaches a Brinell Hardness Number (BHN) of 120 BHN. Ultra Tech 200 Abrasion Resistant steel uses a proprietary chemistry that is inherently stronger than mild steel. Our Ultra Tech 200 pipe will come out of the mill at a nominal 220 BHN. This provides improved resistance to sliding abrasion inside the pipe yet is ductile enough on the exterior wall to withstand high impact and deformation abrasion.
This improved formulation enables Ultra Tech 200 to last approximately twice as long as mild steel in most applications. Ultra Tech 200 installation will result in fewer maintenance and replacement stoppages that will save money over the lifetime of your pipeline.
